SXSW in Bristol? BDF2025, Global Local Nomination + Open Letter to EHRC
A dose of inspiration from our brilliant region featuring graffiti
Dearest Bugle reader,
First, I wanted to thank those of you who shared the Bugle last week. Our community has grown by 15 members to a heady 524 with thanks to you! And welcome to new readers, to a place of concise intel about the tech, creative, and innovation landscape in Greater Bristol.
OPPORTUNITY: Our Very Own Creative/Tech/Culture Festival in October
BTF+ is a bold new extension of Bristol Technology Festival. Inspired by SXSW, it will be a city-wide celebration of creativity, technology, and culture. And they need a Curator / Delivery Lead to work 1-2 days per week - could it be you? Or someone you know? Find out more from Charly Patrick here.
INFORM: Bath Digital Festival is Only 8 Days Away
Bath Digital Festival returns next week 13-15 May. This curated festival provides a platform for the South West region to explore, learn, and celebrate advancements in the digital and tech industries. I’ve had a look through the schedule, and a few popped out:
Space Is Closer Than It Appears! Tues 1-2pm RSVP
Bristol Marketing AI Network is taking a day trip to Bath. Tues 18:30 RSVP
Is ChatGPT killing the penguins? Wed 18:30 RSVP
CELEBRATE: Global Award Nomination For Our Local, International Asset
Did you know Whitchurch in Bristol is home to The Bottle Yard Studios? Poldark, The Crystal Maze, and Broadchurch, are just a handful of the productions filmed there in recent years.
And now, Bottle Yard has been shortlisted for Studio of the Year at the prestigious Global Production Awards 2025! These annual industry awards take place at the Cannes Film Festival.
CONNECT: Stand in Solidarity with our Trans, Nonbinary, and Intersex Communities
Watershed’s brilliant leader, Clare Reddington, has created an open letter to the Equality and Human Rights Commission from the Culture Sector to challenge the recent Supreme Court ruling on gender that has been interpreted to mean transgender women can be excluded from female toilets.
With more than 1600 signatures already, and national press coverage, I’m a bit behind the curve with this one. BUT if you are, of you know a leader in the Culture sector, particularly of a large organisation or venue, please share the link and sign.
BONUS NEWS: The RSA is coming to BATH 17/5.
JUST FOR FUN… There’s no UpFest in 2025 (Europe’s largest street art festival) but the team is helping to bring PaintFest to life instead. On May 10/11 world famous artists will be painting shipping containers in Bedminster - how very Bristol!
That’s all for this week.
Warmest,
Briony
