Funding for Creative Industries, Five Celebrations, an album launch + Bristol BTS
Greater Bristol Business Bugle Issue 87
Dearest Bugle reader,
Did you spot the Bristol Robins logo in the recent Ted Lasso season 4 announcement? Apparently, Ashton Gate is a key filming location!
INFORM: Creative Industries Funding Focus
The Creative Industries are having a moment in the funding spotlight. With the West of England Combined Authority’s £25m Creative Places Growth Fund taking shape, UWE hosted a Creative Economy Summit at the Beacon last Thursday (more on that in my Linkedin post). If it’s a topic close to your heart (or useful for peers), check out these resources:
The Creative Industries Council shares a regular update on funding for creatives.
Dan Martin keeps this handy page updated for Bristol Creative Industries, too.
Oh, and we’re shouting about Creative Industries in Greater Bristol at UKREiif too.
CELEBRATE: Pee Equity, Downloads, New starts + Heat Pump Innovation
Congrats to Kelpi (they’re taking the plastic out of packaging), who have been named finalists in the Sustainability & Impact Awards 2026.
Peequal’s next-gen urinals for women were installed at the London Marathon, and no doubt cut queues and created a little more pee equity.
Locally made podcast Founded & Grounded has reached 3 million downloads.
Previous CTO at Haboo, Paul Dodd, has announced a new startup - Caplia, whose ambition is to ‘be the platform behind every raise, giving founders and investors the structure, clarity, and speed they need to operate effectively.’
Bristol-based Nsuku has announced a new heating system which is cheaper and easier to install, removing the need to replace radiators and make space for a water cylinder. It offers built-in smart controls so the system can be monitored and controlled remotely, and prototypes are being trialled across Bristol.
CONNECT: Open Door to LTW2026 + China
Calling all founders, innovators, and researchers: Join Future Space and Tech West of England Advocates for a session that opens the door to both London Tech Week 2026 and international expansion into Asia. Tues 5 May 12-1pm.
JUST FOR FUN… Perspectives on Greater Bristol
Yuup is organising a 2-week special campaign called City Uncovered, a curated mix of experiences designed to offer new perspectives on our city. From watercolour painting in Leigh Woods, to foraging in Chew Valley and wine tasting at Limeburn Valley, there are so many great opportunities worth exploring.
And friend of the Bugle, Jim Godfrey, is launching a new album - join his party and celebrate with him at Persephone Books on Thursday, 14 May.
That’s all for this week.
Warmest,
Briony
My ambition is to increase transparency and awareness of the amazing business ecosystem in Bristol. Rather than introduce a paywall (which rather goes against that goal), please click the button below to help keep The Bugle alive (if you’re in a position to do so) or get in touch if your organisation can sponsor it on a more regular basis.
