INFORM: Three London Tech Week Headlines
There was so much buzz last week with London Tech Week and the Comprehensive Spending Review Announcement.
Ben highlighted the news that NVIDIA will be investing in Bristol to support Isambard-AI, a major boost to our region’s AI leadership and digital infrastructure.
DSIT announced TechFirst, a £187m programme to bring AI and digital skills into classrooms, careers, and communities. AND a National Digital Exchange to modernise how the Public sector buys tech.
And for you videophiles, a friend of the region Oli and his colleagues, provided some great day summaries and interview videos on the #LondonTechWeek channel.
CELEBRATE: World First, Creative Industries Strength + Celebrations in the Future
👀 Siloton has become the first company in the world to image patients’ eyes using a photonic chip device. They have successfully imaged patients’ retinas to identify the presence and progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Congrats to Ben and the team.
👩🏽🎨 Did you know that the West of England is one of the government’s priority regions when it comes to the Creative Industries? It’s always a good time to celebrate creativity, and I was so pleased to see that the University of the West of England recently ran a Culture and Creative Industries Summit to discuss the government’s UK creative sector plan. Here are the 33 ideas that they came up with to strengthen the creative industries economy in the South West.
🏆 Do you want something to celebrate in a few months? Why not nominate an Entrepreneur of the Year for Barclays? They’ve got categories for AI, fintech, games, and much more. Deadline 30 June.
CONNECT: Spotlight on Healthtech
Calling everyone curious about or active in the world of health and healthtech, there are a couple of great opportunities to convene coming up:
The Festival of Digital Health 30 June - 4 July across Exeter, Cardiff, Bristol + Bath. A dynamic week of events, showcasing how digital technologies are transforming the way we think about, deliver, and experience health and care.
THE FIX - a counter-intuitive festival of healthtech, Harwell. 18 Sept.
THE FIX will bring alive the optimism of health-tech — with product demos, music, art, expert workshops, and storytelling. Gone are over-long keynotes, replaced with short, lively presentations from key people transforming health-tech.
JUST FOR FUN… Thanks to Zara for highlighting this fab podcast, which puts the spotlight on local chef, food entrepreneur, and restaurateur Josh Eggleton. From Foda (a supplier's exposition and networking event inspired by Food on the Edge) to the Anti-Banquet, he’s a lot more than an Executive Chef at The Pony.
That’s all for this week.
Warmest,
Briony
PS Bristol-based social entrepreneur Stephanie Wheen has launched a Crowdfunder for the UK’s first fully inclusive exercise and leisure centre for disabled children and young people.
